Today, I was upstairs visiting with
Alison Sigethy in studio 307. Alison is a talented glass artist who has been at the
Torpedo Factory Art Center for about three years now.
I like the simplicity of design and use of light, color and texture in her work.
I would love to see larger versions of her artwork incorporated into public art.
She is currently having a solo show at The Art League, called
alison sigethy - understory.
It's up through February 7th.
On Thursday, January 20, she is doing an artist talk at 7:00 pm, and Sunday, January 23, a storyteller will do a free performance at the gallery at 1:00 pm.
A little over 2 years ago, Alison took it upon herself to give free public tours of the
Art Center.
She started posting signs at the first floor entrance and whoever showed up was personally escorted by her through the building.
During her tours, she shares the
Art Center’s history, arranges studio visits with artists and answers questions. Alison:
For the first year, tours were twice a week (Wednesday and Friday) at noon. Now they are once a week, Friday's at 1:00 pm. Effective this month, Betty Grisham is running the Friday tours, but I still guide and do tours for groups that schedule them in advance.
Email the Torpedo Factory Art Center to arrange a group tour.
